Wisconsin Car Registrations Down

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- New vehicle registrations in Wisconsin are nearly half of what they were in 2000.

Registrations dropped 46 percent -- a hit that's felt well beyond the state's auto dealerships.

Thousands of jobs have disappeared as auto plants and their suppliers deal with the fractured auto industry.

Terrafugia to move manufacturing plant

A company that is building a flying car could produce the vehicles in Dayton. The chief executive of Terrafugia Inc. said the company has had “discussions” about moving production to Dayton, but he said he had no announcement Tuesday, Feb. 16. According to published reports, the company is weighing a $4.4 million offer to move to Dayton.

“We’ve gotten more interest from Ohio than we’ve gotten from Massachusetts,” Carl Dietrich, CEO of Terrafugia, told the Dayton Daily News.

New plant to create jobs in Greenville

Electric bus maker Proterra Inc. could create as many as 2,600 jobs in Greenville over the next seven years -- double the 1,300 it has promised state officials -- if overseas business materializes as expected, the company's chief executive officer said. And that doesn't include thousands of other jobs that Chief Executive Officer Jeff Granato expects will be generated in South Carolina by companies supplying parts for the plant Proterra formally announced last Thursday.
